Welcome to CFC

Preface

As one of the new strategic research education bases that will be intensively promoted under the leadership of the president of Kyushu University, the Center for Future Chemistry was established in April 2005. The center aims to focus on the promotion of research and technological development to link the results of the 21st Century COE Program "Functional Innovation of Molecular Informatics" to industrial development. To create "environmental benign future sciences and technologies" and "recycling-based future industries," rather than pursuing conventional material reform of chemical engineering, we need to create chemical science and engineering that minimize negative impact on the environment, modeled after bio- and eco-system as a sustainable reproduction.
For that purpose, the center is significantly promoting basic research under the keywords of "green technology," "photonics," "nanotechnology," "biotechnology," and "energy" as well as translational researches to utilize advanced novel substances and technologies quickly for practical application and industrialization. The center also promotes social contribution such as business-academia collaboration, creation of new industries including start-up ventures, and human resources development in cooperation with organizations in Asia and Fukuoka Prefecture. We believe that it is essential to build efficient and mutual trust-based relations between universities and industrial people.
After a decade with enthusiastic support from industrial circles and extraordinary efforts by the members of the center, many new products have been already commercialized based on the research activities obtained in the new Ito Campus. Among the center's three elements - "education," "research," and "business-academia collaboration," the center will promote "business-academia collaboration" at the FiaS (Fukuoka industry-academia Symphonicity) to be constructed in the vicinity of the campus from 2008. We will continue in our endeavors to contribute to society while strongly and flexibly leading future developments in chemical science and technologies. We appreciate your warm support for the center.
Director Noriho KAMIYA
